In the past I have had no problem reading data from my GPS. Now I get the following error.

gps exception: unexpected disconnect

I installed GPSIO for chrome and that didn't seem to help.

What model of GPS is it?

    Thanks for the quick response.

    It’s a GPSmap 60CSx.

Unfortunately you can't just read the GPX files off it then, like you can with later units.

Any idea what changed? This isn't going to be particularly easy to debug. Step 1 would be to click on the GPS icon at the top right of the browser and see if it's reporting that the GPSIO plugin is working properly.

Clicking the GPSIO plug-in icon, it says “Cannot communicate with host.”

I just installed the GPSIO. I don’t know if it was already installed when I was using it before and it worked.

I also tried using Safari with the communicator selection. That didn’t work either.

    Sorry for the delay.

The plugin is two parts: the extension that's visible in your browser, and a host. If you're getting a "cannot communicate with host" message, it probably means that the host part is not setup correctly.

    • It sounds like you are on a mac?

    • Did you install GPSBabel and the host file as described at
