On the slope angle shade, I noticed a spot that said "Pit" in purple. What does that mean?

I couldn't tell you for sure but it's probably a small open pit mine. That looks like the USGS symbology for "disturbed surface"; see https://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/TopographicMapSymbols/topomapsymbols.pdf.

Since that's based on the USGS map you can go to https://store.usgs.gov/, click on the "map locator & downloader" link, and find the source PDF maps for the area that my layer is based on. Since these still have the collar / footer, there may, or may not, be additional information in the footer.
